CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y.—The Hobart baseball team beat Bard in both ends of a doubleheader on Friday to extend its winning streak to five games. Playing on the artificial turf of Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex in Cortlandville, the Statesmen took Game 1 9-4 in seven innings and Game 2 17-6 in seven innings.
Senior

Nate Johnson was 4-for-7 with three RBIs, three stolen bases, and two runs scored. First-year
Jack Byrnes smacked a pair of triples, scored five runs and drove in three.
On the mound, sophomore
Teck Nash pitched six innings in Game 1 to earn the win. He allowed just one earned run and struck out three. In the nightcap, four Statesmen combined to strike out 12 Raptors. Sophomore starter
Aaron Forgues led the charge, whiffing seven without allowing an earned run in four innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game 1
- Hobart broke the game open in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-out error.
- Sophomore Nate Garrett hit a bouncer to the left side. The third baseman couldn't collect the ball cleanly, loading the bases.
- Byrnes followed with the first of his two triples, giving the Statesmen a 3-0 lead.
- Johnson followed with a double to score Byrnes and Gallagher's single to right brought home Johnson for a five-run advantage.
- Bard trimmed Hobart's lead to just two runs through five and a half innings, 6-4, but Ty Gallagher's two-run double down the right field line doubled the advantage in the bottom of the sixth. It was the 100th collegiate hit for Gallagher, who transferred to Hobart after two years at Herkimer County Community College (43 hits). He later scored on a passed ball to complete the game's scoring.
- Junior reliever Nicholas Franceschi worked a 1-2-3 seventh to complete the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game 2
- The Statesmen did all of their damage early in the contest, scoring five times in the first inning, four times in the second and piling on eight in the third.
- Bard struggled on the mound, walking eight and uncorking three wild pitches.
- Most of the Hobart scoring was station-to-station.
- First-years Sean Garvin (in the second) and Gavin Brignall (in the third) both provided two-run singles, but otherwise the Statesmen scored one run at a time.
- Forgues, meanwhile, was locked in early. He worked around one base runner to strike out three in the first inning.
- Peter Dunham, Cole Tarrant and Alex Frank pitched the fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, to wrap up the game.
FOR THE RECORD
- Bard falls to 4-18 on the season, 0-8 in the Liberty League.
- Hobart evens its overall record at 11-11 and moves to 6-4 in conference play.
