GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team fell 8-1 to RPI this afternoon in Bristol Field House to conclude its alumnae weekend. The Herons fall to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Engineers move to 10-4 with a 4-1 mark in the Liberty League.
RPI won all three doubles matches over William Smith despite an impressive showing by the Herons in the No. 2 spot. Junior Natalie Haythorn and sophomore Marin Montagne posted the closest doubles match of the day, eventually falling to Masha Karach and Lina Krunmpel 8-7 (7-4) in the No. 2 spot.
The Herons tried to fight back in singles play but were matched by a strong Engineer side that took five of six available points in singles action. Junior Julia Pida won the lone point for William Smith as Karach withdrew from the match in the No. 6 spot.
Two Herons forced tiebreaker sets in singles play but ultimately fell in both. Haythorn fell to Prisha Rapur 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 in the No. 2 spot, while first-year
