BABSON PARK, Mass. – The No. 37 ranked Hobart tennis team was tripped up in a nonconference matchup with No. 33 Babson this afternoon 9-0. The Statesmen fall to 13-5 on the season, while the Beavers move to 13-8 overall.
Babson grabbed the early momentum in doubles play, winning all three matches over Hobart. Juniors Troy Steiner and Hyat Oyer posted the closest doubles score of the day as they fell in the No. 2 spot to Andrew Watson and Jonah Wilson 8-5. The Statesmen duo is now 9-7 in dual matches this season.
Senior Sean Pesin and sophomore Nick Fischer saw their seven-match win streak come to an end as they fell to Ole Lepsoe and Logan Back 8-3 in the No. 1 spot. Pesin and Fischer are now 12-5 in dual matches this season.
The Beavers continued to roll in singles play, making it hard for the Statesmen to grab any momentum in the match. Senior Winter Fagerberg put up a fight in the No. 4 spot forcing a tiebreaker against Wesley Zhang. Zhang ultimately defeated Fagerberg 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. Fagerberg is now 10-6 in dual matches this season.
Pesin fell to Wilson 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot to fall to 8-7 in dual matches this season. Junior Nick Grosso fell in the No. 5 spot 6-4, 6-2 to Watson. He falls to 12-5 on the season.
