CANTON, N.Y.– The No. 34 ranked Hobart tennis team closed out its regular season with a 9-0 conference win over St. Lawrence this afternoon at Sammis Tennis Courts. The Statesmen move to 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the Liberty League, while the Saints fell to 8-10 overall with a 4-4 mark in conference play.
Hobart cruised through doubles play, winning all three matches over St. Lawrence. In the No. 1 spot, senior Sean Pesin and sophomore Nick Fischer defeated Adam Heilbronner and Broderick Pinto 8-1. The duo is now 13-5 in dual matches this season in the No. 1 spot.
Juniors Troy Steiner and Hyat Oyer moved to 10-7 in doubles play this season after defeating Cole Hamilton and Ben Moolman 8-5 in the No. 2 spot. Senior Winter Fagerberg and junior Rahul Vallabhajosula defeated John Hill-Edgar and Edvin Strandberg 8-6 in the No. 3 spot to move to 10-3 on the season.
The Statesmen continued its momentum into singles play, winning all six matches against the Saints to complete the sweep. Fischer defeated Pinto 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in the No. 2 spot for his eighth win of the season.
First-year Achilleas Kousaridis continued to impress for Hobart as he defeated Hamilton 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 3 spot. With his fifth-straight win, he moves to a team-leading 14-2 record in dual matches in his rookie season. Oyer moved to 14-5 in dual matches after defeating Moolman 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot.
Fagerberg handled business in the No. 5 spot, defeating Hill-Edgar 6-1, 6-3 to move to 11-6 on the season. Junior Nick Grosso followed that up with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Strandberg in the No. 6 spot. He is now 13-5 on the season.
Pesin officially clinched the victory for the Statesmen as he defeated Heilbronner 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. With the win, he is now 9-7 in the No. 1 spot this season.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, May 4, when it heads to Ithaca, New York, to compete in the 2024 Liberty League Men's Tennis Tournament. The Statesmen have received a first-round bye and will be in action on Saturday in the semifinal round. More information will be released as it becomes available.
