GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team earned its second-straight nonconference victory as they defeated Hartwick 6-3 this afternoon in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Herons move to 7-11 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 9-6 overall.
William Smith jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play against Hartwick. Junior Natalie Haythorn and sophomore Haley Levine earned their second-straight victory in the No. 1 spot as they defeated Lily Vanuga and Ryann Ashby 8-1. The duo is now 5-4 overall on the season and 2-1 in dual matches this season.
Sophomores Maddy Buck and Marin Montagne continued to impress in doubles play this afternoon. The duo extended their win streak to four straight as they defeated Maggie Van Valkenbur and Maddi Morrison 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. Buck and Montagne are now 7-1 in dual matches this season. First-year Mae Kellersman and junior Julia Pida extended the score to 3-0 as they were handed a forfeit win in the No. 3 spot.
The Herons and the Hawks split the points in singles play as both sides won three matches each. Kellersman defeated Vanuga 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot for her second-straight win this weekend. Sophomore Lizzy Legg won by default in the No. 6 spot to earn a point for William Smith. She is now 2-0 in dual matches this season.
Pida clinched the victory for the Herons with her win in the No. 2 spot. She defeated Ashby 6-2, 6-2 to move to 6-4 on the season. The win was her first in the No. 2 spot this season.

William Smith will be back in action Wednesday, April 24, when it travels to Rochester to take on RIT (6-8, 1-5) in a crucial conference matchup. First serve between the Herons and the Tigers is set for 3 p.m. at the RIT Tennis Courts.
