ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team saw its two-match win streak come to an end as it fell to RIT 6-3 this afternoon in a Liberty League matchup in Gordon Field House. The Herons fall to 7-12 on the season and 1-6 in conference play, while the Tigers move to 7-9 overall with a 2-5 mark in the Liberty League.
William Smith jumped out to an early lead after winning two of three doubles matches against RIT. Juniors Julia Pida and Isabelle Goings-Perrot defeated Jackie Drozd and Abby Murray 8-2 in the No. 2 spot, earning their first dual match win this season as partners.
Sophomores Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck continued to shine for the Herons in doubles play, defeating Anika Galkiewicz and Gabby Donohue 8-3 in the No. 3 spot. The duo moved to 8-1 in dual matches this season and is 3-1 in conference play.
Sophomore Haley Levine and junior Natalie Haythorn put up a fight in the No. 1 spot but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker. The duo fell 8-7 (7-2) to Kira Kronenberg and Maya Clinard and fell to 2-2 in dual matches this season.
RIT grabbed the momentum back in singles play, winning five of six matches against William Smith. First-year Mae Kellersman won the lone singles point for the Herons as she defeated Donohue 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Kellersman is now riding a three-match win streak and is 7-11 in dual matches this season.
William Smith put up a fight in singles play but fell in two tiebreaker matches against RIT as the Tigers came out victorious. Haythorn fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to Clinard in the No. 2 spot, while Pida fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to Drozd in the No. 4 spot.

William Smith will be back in action Saturday, April 27, when it heads to Canton, New York, to take on St. Lawrence (11-7, 4-3) in a Liberty League matchup. First serve between the Herons and the Saints is set for noon at Sammis Tennis Courts.
