GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart baseball team earned a pair of non-conference wins over Elmira at McDonough Park this evening. The Statesmen won Game 1 going away 9-0 and prevailed 6-1 in the nightcap.
Sophomore
Alex Marancik started Game 1 and was perfect in three innings of work. He was backed by three-run homers off the bats of senior
Ty Gallagher and first-year
Jack Byrnes. Sophomore
Cole Tarrant won Game 2 with his best outing of the season. In five scoreless innings of work, he struck out seven, walked two and allowed two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME 1
- Hobart broke the game open in the third inning.
- Byrnes led off with a walk and junior Nate Johnson followed with a single, putting runners on the corners.
- With one out, Gallagher stepped to the plate and crushed the second pitch he saw down the right field line for his second home run of the season.
- Hobart tacked on an unearned run for a 4-0 lead through three.
- Brynes returned to the plate in the fifth with two on and launched the first pitch over the left field wall for his first collegiate home run.
- First-year Jake Schulte came on to pitch the fourth and allowed just three hits across three innings before handing the ball to first-year Chris Lockwood, who closed out the Hobart win without allowing a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME 2
- The Statesmen wasted no time, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first.
- Johnson led off with a double and sophomore Christian Petry reached on an infield hit to third.
- They promptly executed a double steal to put two runners in scoring position.
- Two batters later, first-year Connor O'Neil legged out an infield single, bringing Johnson home. Petry also came home and O'Neil took second when the late throw to first went all the way to the fence.
- O'Neil moved up to third on a ground out and sophomore Nate Garrett's single to left center scored him.
- Hobart added two more runs in the second.
- Petry got down a safety squeeze bunt to score first-year Gavin Brignall and Gallagher singled to plate Johnson.

GAME NOTES
- Hobart hit .314 (16-51) off Elmira pitching today.
- The Statesmen pitchers limited the Soaring Eagles to .130 hitting (6-46).
- Hobart turned three double plays in Game 1, the most by the Statesmen since turning four at Union April 15, 2023.
- In addition to his Game 1 home run, Gallagher also singled in Game 2, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.
- Petry walked twice in the opener and had a single and a walk in the nightcap. He has reached base safely in every game this season and 33 consecutive games dating back to last season.
FOR THE RECORD
- The two losses dropped Elmira's record to 11-17.
- Hobart, which has won 11 of its last 13 games, improved to 17-13.

- The Statesmen will wrap up their four-game homestand Friday, April 26, welcoming Ithaca to McDonough Park. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, Hobart will recognize Gallagher and graduate student Joe McCoy, who will be playing their final home game.
