HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of a pair of Ithaca errors.
- First-year Sean Garvin hit a sharp grounder to short that was mishandled to reach first.
- Sophomore Drew Bolduc drew a walk to put two on.
- Schmiedlin put a bunt down the third baseline. Leyner fielded it and threw to third. Garvin got to the bag first, but the rushed throw was wide of the bag allowing two runs to score.
- The Bombers answered in the top of the third when Shashaty doubled down the leftfield line, scoring Nicholas Cutaia and Riley Brawdy.
- Ithaca doubled their way into the lead in the sixth. Louis Fabbo had a one-out double into the corner to left and Curtis delivered a two-out double to the same spot to score him.
- Schmiedlin led off the Hobart half of the seventh with a double to right, but he was stranded as Leyner retired the next three batters he faced.
- In the ninth, the Statesmen had two on with only one out, but a ground ball right to the third baseman started a game-ending double play.
