SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.– The No. 31 ranked Hobart tennis team extended its win streak to nine straight as it defeated Skidmore 7-2 this afternoon in a Liberty League matchup at the Wilton YMCA. With the win, the Statesmen snap a 27-match losing streak to the Thoroughbreds that dates back to April 25, 2004. Hobart is now 9-4 on the season with a 3-0 record in conference play, while Skidmore falls to 1-8 overall with a 0-3 mark in the Liberty League.
Hobart continued to impress in doubles play, winning all three matches against Skidmore. Senior
Sean Pesin and sophomore
Nick Fischer defeated Nika Mori and Yuval Goodman 8-6 for their third straight win in the No. 1 spot and move to 8-4 on the season. Juniors
Troy Steiner and
Hyat Oyer defeated Louis Bourn and Josh Finkle 8-1 in the No. 2 spot to move to 7-4 in dual matches, while senior
Winter Fagerberg and junior Rahul Vallbhajosula moved to 6-1 on the season with an 8-7 (7-5) win over Fletcher King and Griffin Biernat in the No. 3 spot.
The Statesmen continued on their momentum into singles play, winning four of six matches against the Thoroughbreds. Pesin defeated Bourn 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot to earn his seventh straight dual match win, moving to 7-4 on the season.
Fagerberg extended his win streak to a team-leading eight straight as he defeated Finkle 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in the No. 5 spot. He is now 8-3 in dual matches this season. Junior
Nick Grosso defeated Biernat 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 in the No. 6 spot to move to 9-3 on the season. He is now riding a six-match win streak.
First-year
Achilleas Kousaridis got back in the win column this afternoon after defeating King 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot to clinch the victory for Hobart. Kousaridis is now 9-2 in dual matches in his rookie season.
