GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart sophomore second baseman
Christian Petry recorded a game-high four hits, but the Statesmen struggled to slow down Oswego State. The Lakers tallied 17 hits and scored a 15-7 win over the Statesmen at McDonough Park tonight.
Petry matched the most hits in a game by a Statesman this season with three singles and a double in five at bats. He also extended his streak of reaching base safely to 37 games. Junior
Nate Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. First-year
Connor Schmiedlin also went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Three Lakers finished the game with three hits apiece. Greg Carullo was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Dylan Rosenberg had two singles and a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Daniel Winchester had three singles and scored twice. Owen Parliament hit a solo home run in the first inning and Jacob Levine added a two-run shot in the third.
Trailing 7-2 in the middle of the fourth, Hobart scored three times in the bottom of the fourth thanks to first-year
Jack Byrnes' RBI single and Johnson's two-run single. The Statesmen could have added more, but Oswego starter Nick Cody induced a flyout to center with the bases loaded to end the inning.
The Lakers (20-12) broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth. Parliament's two-run single to center made it a 12-5 game.
Oswego used three pitchers in the game with Larry Citrola (2-2) earning the win and Mason Sands pitching the final 3 2-3 innings for the save.
Hobart used nine pitchers, throwing one inning each. Starter
Aaron Forgues (1-1) took the loss. Byrnes, who played centerfield for the first eight innings, struck out the side in the ninth.
The Statesmen (17-17) will be back in action Saturday, May 4 when they begin a best-of-three Liberty League Crossover Series at Rensselaer (18-12). Game 1 of the opening doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon. If the series goes to a third game, it will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 5.
