The Hobart volleyball team concluded its inaugural season ranked No. 16 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Volleyball Poll. The Statesmen were ranked in the AVCA national poll for 11 straight weeks after breaking into the top-20 on Feb. 13. Hobart finished the season ranked top-25 in two other national polls, coming in at No. 15 in the Inside Hitter weekly rankings and No. 21 in the FrogJump Volleyball poll.
The 16th-ranked Statesmen went 18-11 in their first varsity season, including a 3-4 record in the United Volleyball Conference, clinching a playoff berth. Hobart earned the fifth seed in the UVC Tournament and ultimately fell to fourth-seeded MIT 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
In its debut season, Hobart volleyball produced one AVCA first-team All-American, the AVCA Regional Player of the Year, one AVCA first-team All-Region selection, and two UVC all-conference selections. The Statesmen were represented in the UVC weekly awards 11 times. Additionally, first-years Daniel Sappia and Zack Farren were named to the FrogJump Volleyball All-Freshman Team, while graduate student Andrew Kim was named a finalist for the FrogJump Volleyball Outside Hitter of the Year.
As a team, Hobart ranked 11th in the nation in kills per set (12.44) and fourth in the nation in assists per set (11.75). Individually, Kim led the nation in kills per set (5.68) and points per set (6.43), while Farren ranked eighth in the nation in assists per set (9.89). Defensively, the Statesmen led one of the toughest conferences in the nation in digs per set (10.15), opponent kills (9.80) and opponent assists (9.26).
Hobart saw 15 ranked opponents in its inaugural season, defeating four and going to five-sets with three more. In the final AVCA national poll, 12 of the Statesmen's opponents filled the 20-team list, including six conference opponents.
