LEXINGTON, Ky.– Graduate student Andrew Kim of the Hobart volleyball team was named a first team All-American, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. Kim concluded his collegiate career with his second straight All-American recognition for Hobart and the fifth of his career.
Along with his All-American recognition, Kim was named the AVCA Region III Player of the Year and the United Volleyball Conference's Co-Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-UVC first team, after a season that saw him earn UVC Player of the Week honors twice and AVCA National Player of the Week honors once.
Kim led Hobart to a 20-9 record in its second season as a varsity sport. The Statesmen went 3-4 in conference play, clinching a playoff berth for the second straight season. Hobart was ranked in the AVCA national poll every week this season, climbing as high as No. 9. The Statesmen concluded the season ranked 19th in the nation.
The six-rotation outside hitter from Rancho Santa Margarita, California, tallied 366 kills, 183 digs, 43 service aces and 38 blocks in his final collegiate season. Kim led the UVC and ranked second in the nation in points per set (5.45) and third in kills per set (4.63). His .365 hitting percentage was sixth in the conference and 27th in the nation. Kim served 43 aces this season and ranked 17th in the nation in service aces per set (0.54). He ranked third in the conference in digs per set (2.32).
During the regular season, the Statesmen took on eight ranked opponents. Against those teams, Kim averaged 4.61 kills per set, 2.21 digs per set and 5.23 points per set. Against then No. 14 Misericordia, Kim broke the NCAA Division III career kills record. He concluded his collegiate career with 1,828 career kills, 294 more than the previous record.
Kim concluded his collegiate career as one of the most successful players in Division III Men's Volleyball history. He garnered four AVCA first team All-American honors and one second team recognition. He has been named the AVCA Regional Player of the Year four times and was named the AVCA National Player of the Year in 2023. Kim was selected first team All-UVC five times and was a third team Academic All-American in 2023.
