GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart Head Football Coach Kevin DeWall '00 has hired Colin Schaeffer to serve as linebackers coach for the 2024 season. Schaeffer's coaching resume includes stops at all three divisions of NCAA football, including the past three seasons at Division I Bucknell.

"We're excited to welcome Colin to our staff," said DeWall. "His experience coaching the linebackers and coordinating special teams most recently at Bucknell, along with recruiting a similar type of strong student-athlete, should transition well here at Hobart. Also, Colin's work ethic and competitiveness are two strong traits that we believe will add to our football family."

Schaeffer coached the defensive line and linebackers during his three seasons with the Bison. He also served as the special teams coordinator in 2022 and 2023. Last season, Bucknell led the Patriot League and ranked 11th in the Football Championship Subdivision in blocked punts with four. Schaeffer helped mold a defensive that ranked 12th in Division III against the run in 2017. During his two seasons in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Mules were a combined 17-5 and earned back-to-back bowl bids, capturing the 2017 Bushnell Bowl Championship. He developed three all-conference and one D3football.com All-Region linebackers at Muhlenberg.

In 2018, Schaeffer was an assistant defensive line coach and defensive quality control coach at Division II Seton Hill.

Schaeffer graduated with a bachelor's degree in management from Juniata in 2016. He played four seasons on the defensive line for the Eagles. Schaeffer and his teammates earned a postseason bid in 2013, playing in the ECAC Southwest Bowl. He was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for his performance in the classroom and on the gridiron.

Hobart is coming off an 8-3 season that saw the Statesmen earn their fourth consecutive bowl bid. The Statesmen are scheduled to kickoff their 130th varsity season when they welcome Alfred to Boswell Field at Urick Stadium on Friday, Sept. 6.
