PITTSFORD, N.Y.—The No. 24 William Smith field hockey team opened the 2024 season with a dominating 4-0 win at St. John Fisher this afternoon. The Herons got goals from four different players, including three first-years.
William Smith (1-0) outshot St. John Fisher 24-2 and enjoyed a 12-1 edge in penalty corners. In fact, the Cardinals didn't earn a corner until the final 10 seconds of the game. First-year goalie Baker Jeramiah earned the shut out in her collegiate debut, making a pair of saves. Senja Matson made 11 stops for Fisher (0-1).
The Herons controlled possession for the majority of the match, opening the scoring on
Mia Batchelder's first career goal two minutes into the second quarter. It remained a one-goal game into the fourth quarter when WIlliam Smith erupted for three more goals off the sticks of first-year
