ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team was edged by Nazareth 1-0 in a non-conference contest at Golden Flyer this afternoon. The Statesmen are 0-2-2 while the Golden Flyers improve to 2-1-0.
Junior
Thomas Chyzowych played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.
Spencer Neil scored the goal for Nazareth. Logan Menna started in goal for the Golden Flyers. He made five saves.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hobart finished the game with a 19-4 advantage in shots. The Statesmen outshot Nazareth 17-1 in the second half.
- Hobart had 16 corner kicks in the game and the Golden Flyers had one.
MATCH MOMENTS
- Neil opened the scoring on the first shot of the game. He dribbled around a Hobart defender and fired a shot past Chyzowych for his sixth goal of the season.
- In the 20th minute, Neil nearly doubled the lead. His shot from inside the 18-yard box hit the left goalpost.
- Later in the half, Neil nearly struck again, but his shot was saved off of the goalline by a defender.
- The Statesmen turned up the pressure in the second half, earning 14 of their 16 corner kicks in the final 40 minutes of the game.
- In the 51st minute, sophomore La Zai Outerbridge had a shot turned aside by a diving Menna. Twenty seconds later, junior Brian Sheehan's attempt was smothered by the Nazareth goalie.
- Senior Connor Koschineg nearly scored the game-tying goal in the 65th minute, but Menna stopped his shot.
- Senior Nick Kasper had Hobart's best chance in the 85th minute. His header hit the crossbar and bounced just short of the goal line. Menna pounced on the rebound.
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when it welcomes Rochester to Cozzens Field. The Statesmen's home opener is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
