GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior
Lindsay Ringbloom scored in the 61st minute to guide the Herons to a 1-0 victory over Messiah on Cozzens Field. With the win the Herons are now 2-2-1 on the season while Messiah falls to 1-1-3 to start the year.
Ringbloom's goal was assisted by
Julia Bragg.
Kirsten Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves.
Ava Wert played all 90 minutes in goal for Messiah and made one save.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Messiah finished the game with an 8-4 edge in shots, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Falcons also had 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
MATCH MOMENTS
- Messiah had the game's first scoring chance in the 10th minute. Kristina Akselsen had a shot from 25 yards out turned aside by Nelson.
- Sophomore Kayleigh Darby had William Smith's best chance in the first half, but her shot was stopped by a diving Wert.
- In the 30th minute, Addi Martin fired a shot on goal from just outside the 18-yard box that took a weird bounce but was turned aside by Nelson.
- Martin had two more chances late in the half but could not sneak a shot past Nelson.
- In the 61st minute, Bragg created a turnover in the offensive end and sent a cross into the box. Ringbloom headed the ball into the lower corner of the cage for her first goal of the season.
- Martin nearly tied the game six minutes later, but Nelson punched her shot over the crossbar.
