Hawks clip Statesmen 1-0

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team was edged by Hartwick 1-0 in a non-conference contest at Elmore Field this afternoon. The Hawks scored the game-winning goal with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to improve to 2-0-1 on the season. The Statesmen fall to 0-1-1 overall.
 
Junior Thomas Chyzowych played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart.
 
Jake Daly scored the goal for Hartwick. Dante Gesamondo started in goal and made five saves for the Hawks.  
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Daly's moment of brilliance came in the 90th minute. Kayden Zachgo dribbled around the Hobart goalie and slid a pass to Daly, who buried the shot in the lower left corner of the cage. It was Daly's first goal of the season.
 
MATCH MOMENTS
  • Hobart took control of the game from the opening whistle. In the second minute, senior Connor Koschineg just missed the crossbar with a shot.
  • In the 11th minute, senior Luke Ryan had a shot turned aside by Gesamondo.
  • Five minutes later junior Quinn Phillips had a shot smothered by the Hartwick goalie.
  • In the 38th minute, Will Slayton had one of Hobart's better chances. His shot was snatched out of the air by Gesamondo.
  • In the second half, Hobart continued to apply pressure, but could not sneak a shot across the goalline.  Twenty-two seconds into the frame junior Matheus Souza had a shot turned aside by a diving Gesamondo.
  • Four minutes later, Gesamondo punched a Brendan Haggerty shot over the crossbar.  
  • With just over six minutes remaining in regulation, Hobart appeared to take the lead but had a goal taken off of the scoreboard due to an offsides call.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the match with a 17-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Statesmen had all nine of the game's corner kicks.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action to take on Oneonta, which is ranked 25th in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
