SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team scored three goals in the third period as it knocked off Skidmore 5-3 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the Saratoga City Rink this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are 13-0-0 to start the season with a 10-0-0 mark in NEHC play.
Sophomores
Brandon Sacchetti (1g, 1a) and
Conor Lally (2a) led Hobart with two points each. Junior
Mavrick Goyer started in goal and made 25 saves as he earned his sixth win of the season.
Kaeden Patrick and Zach Lindewirth had a goal and an assist in the loss for the Thoroughbreds (7-8-0, 5-5-0). Tommy Aitken played all 60 minutes in goal and made 19 saves.
STREAKING
- With today's win, Hobart extends its unbeaten streak to 38 games (37-0-1). That mark matches the NCAA Division III record for the longest unbeaten streak. The Statesmen are the third team to hit the mark. UMass Dartmouth won 38 straight games and St. Norbert went 33-0-5 during their respective streaks.
- Hobart has won 27 straight games, the fourth-longest streak in NCAA Division III.
- This is the second time in the last three seasons that the Statesmen have started the year with 13 straight wins. Hobart won 14 straight games to start the 2022-23 season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Skidmore finished the game with a 28-24 edge in shots on goal. It was the first time this season that Hobart was out shot.
- The Statesmen were 1-for-3 on the power play. Skidmore was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Hobart opened the scoring at the 10:09 mark of the first period. Sophomore Chris Duclair snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle into the upper right corner of the cage. The power-play goal was assisted by Lally and sophomore Bauer Morrissey.
- Skidmore tied the game two minutes later. Patrick picked up a rebound in the slot and slipped a shot past Goyer. The power-play goal was assisted by Zach Lindewirth and Ryan Waltman.
- Hobart regained the lead when Sacchetti notched his third goal of the year. He split a pair of defenders and ripped a shot past Aitken. The goal was assisted by Sophomore Logan Gotinsky and first-year Connor Elliot.
- After a scoreless middle period, Lindewirth tied things at two with his eighth goal of the season just under two minutes into the third period. His goal was assisted by Danny Magnuson and Patrick.
- Graduate Student Austin Mourar, who was playing in his 100th career game, answered 18 seconds later. He snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle into the back of the net. Mourar's fourth goal of the season was assisted by senior Matthew Perryman and Sacchetti.
- Junior Tristan Fasig scored the game-winning goal at the 13:08 mark of the final frame. He one-timed a pass from Kahlil Fontana past Aitken. Senior Cooper Swift also had an assist on the goal.
- Fifty-six seconds later, senior Luke Aquaro wristed a shot past the Skidmore goalie for his sixth goal of the year. Lally and junior Tanner Daniels had assists on the goal.
- Evan Brown rounded out the scoring for Skidmore. His sixth goal of the year was assisted by Cooper Rice and Coleman Jenkins.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- Mourar is the 25th player in program history to play in 100 career games.
- With a goal in today's game, Aquaro now has 60 for his career. He is the fifth player in program history to score 60 or more goals during his career.
- Aquaro's 113 points are seventh on Hobart's all-time list.
