#1 Statesmen shut out Bengals, break NCAA record

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team scored twice in the first period and never looked back as it knocked off Buffalo State 3-0 in a non-conference contest this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen extended their unbeaten streak to an NCAA men's hockey record 39 games.

The Statesmen's 39-game unbeaten streak began on November 17, 2023, when they beat Buffalo State 4-0. Hobart has gone 38-0-1 since then, including capturing the 2024 national championship. With today's win, the Statesmen broke the record shared by the unbeaten runs of St. Norbert in 2007-08 and UMass Dartmouth in 1985-86. Hobart's streak is also longer than the longest unbeaten run in Division I. Rensselaer had a 38-game unbeaten streak in 1984-1985.  The Wisconsin-River Falls women's hockey team had a 40-game unbeaten streak earlier this year.

Nine different Statesmen recorded a point in today's victory over Buffalo State. Junior Damon Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal and stopped all 21 shots he faced as he earned the shutout.

Marcus Cumberworth started in goal for the Bengals. He made 33 saves.
