CLINTON, N.Y.—The William Smith ice hockey team was edged by Hamilton 3-1 in a non-conference contest at Russel Sage Rink this evening. The Herons scored first, but the Continentals scored three unanswered goals in the third period to secure the victory.

Erin Murray played all 60 minutes in goal and made 31 saves.
Bri Rockwood recorded a natural hat trick, scoring all three of the Hamilton goals. Ava Romano notched three assists. Evie Sheridan played all 60 minutes in goal for Hamilton and made 17 saves.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hamilton finished the game with a 34-18 advantage in shots on goal, including a 14-3 edge in the final period.
- The Herons were 1-for-3 on the power play and the Continentals were 0-for-1 with the extra attacker.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Quirk opened the scoring with 19 seconds remaining in the second period. Standing in the slot, she redirected a shot from junior Seneca Urban past Sheridan for her fourth goal of the season. First-year Bella Hacker also had an assist on the power-play goal. It was the first power-play goal Hamilton had allowed this season.
- Rockwood broke up the shutout bid at the 6:11 mark of the third period. She poked a loose puck across the goal line for her first goal of the season. Romano had an assist on the goal.
- Seven minutes later, Rockwood picked up her second goal of the season. She snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle over Murray's shoulder. Romano and Grace Puskar had assists on the goal.
- Rockwood completed the hat trick with just under five minutes remaining in regulation. She wristed a shot from the slot past Murray for her third goal of the year. Romano and Cuora Sullivan were awarded assists on the goal.

William Smith will be back in action this weekend, Jan. 25-26, when it welcomes Vermont State University Castleton to The Cooler. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday's game will begin at 2 p.m.
