GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie St. Lawrence with 12 minutes remaining in the Liberty League showdown in Bristol Gym tonight, but the visiting Saints were able to regain the lead and hold on a for a 58-52 victory.
Sophomore
Alex Moesch was the only Statesmen in double digits, finishing with 11 points. Senior
Pat Healy added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
SLU got a game-high 13 points from Troy McPherson. He was joined in double digits by Adam Dudzinski and Aidan Macauley, who both scored 11 points, and Gavin Macauley, who added 10. Dudzinski also grabbed a team-high nine boards and a game-high three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hobart struggled to find its offensive rhythm against St. Lawrence's zone defense, especially in the first half.
- The Statesmen missed their first 10 shots from the floor, falling into an 11-0 deficit seven minutes into the game.
- Healy got Hobart on the board draining a jumper nearly eight minutes after the opening tipoff.
- The Statesmen trailed 21-7 with seven minutes remaining in the half and were down 13 with under three minutes left.
- Hobart scored the final six points of the first half to close the gap to seven, 27-20, at the half. Healy accounted for four of the Statesmen points in the surge.
- Hobart scored the first four points of the second half to make it 10 unanswered and pull within a single possession
- The visitors pushed their lead back to seven on a driving layup by Dan Anderson, but the Statesmen used a 10-2 run to tie the game. First-year Allen Mordi netted four points to power Hobart's run and Moesch knotted the game at 36 with one of his three 3-pointers.
- St. Lawrence regained control of the game with a 12-2 run, including five points from McPherson.
- Hobart wasn't able to get back within a single possession during the remaining four minutes.
