GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart sophomore forward
Dominic Schimizzi scored a pair of goals as the top-ranked Statesmen knocked off Norwich 4-1 in a New England Hockey Conference Contest at The Cooler this evening. With the win, Hobart is now 16-0-0 on the season with an 11-0-0 mark in NEHC play.
It was Schimizzi's first multi-goal game as a Statesman. Junior
Tanner Daniels added a goal and an assist. Junior
Damon Beaver made 21 saves as he picked up his ninth win of the season.
Johnny Johnson scored for Norwich (8-5-3, 7-2-2). Sami Molu started in goal and made 38 saves.
STREAKING
- With today's win, Hobart extended its unbeaten streak to 41 games (40-0-1). It is the longest streak in Division III hockey and men's college hockey. Only the University of Wisconsin women have a longer unbeaten streak.
- The win was the 30th in a row. The Statesmen are the fourth team in NCAA Division III Men's history to win 30 straight games.
- Hobart has won 44 straight games at The Cooler.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Statesmen finished the game with a 42-22 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Cadets were 1-for-1 on the power play and Hobart was 2-for-3 with the man advantage.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Schimizzi opened the scoring at the 8:39 mark of the first period. He picked up a loose puck in the right faceoff circle and slipped a shot just inside the right goalpost for his fourth goal of the season. First-year Tamas Toth and sophomore Chris Duclair had assists on the goal.
- Junior Tristan Fasig gave Hobart a two-goal lead with less than a minute remaining in the second period. He snapped a shot from the low slot over Molu's glove for his third goal of the season. Senior Shane Shell and Daniels had assists on the goal.
- Norwich broke up the shutout bid just under four minutes into the third period. Sinking to one knee, Johnson fired a shot past Beaver for his fourth goal of the season. Bryan O'Mara and Clark Kerner had assists on the shorthanded goal.
- Schimizzi notched his second goal of the game and fifth of the season just over two minutes later. He broke up a Norwich clearing attempt and fired a slapshot past Molu. The power-play goal was an unassisted tally
- Daniels rounded out the scoring at the 8:26 mark of the final frame. He centered a pass from a tight angle. The puck deflected off a Norwich player's skate and went in the net. Seniors Cooper Swift and Luke Aquaro were credited with assists on the goal.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- With an assist in today's game, Aquaro now has 117 career points, one behind Bill Tryder '92 who is sixth on Hobart's career list.
- Shell and Aquaro both had one assist in today's game. They have 55 for their career. That is 15th on Hobart's career list.
- With a win today, Beaver now has 45 for his career. He is tied for second on Hobart's career list.
