Falcons clip #1 Statesmen in OT

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team was edged by Albertus Magnus 3-2 in overtime in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the Ralph Walker Rink this afternoon.
 
The loss snaps the Statesmen's NCAA men's hockey record unbeaten streak at 42 games and their winning streak at 31 games. Hobart went 41-0-1 during the streak that spanned from Nov. 11, 2023, to today, Jan. 31, 2025.
 
Tanner Daniels scored both goals for the Statesmen. Damon Beaver played all but 40 seconds in goal and made 21 saves.
 
Three different players scored a goal for the Falcons. Sam Witt led Albertus Magnus with two assists. Chance Hale played all 61:56 in goal and made a career-high 45 saves in the upset victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 47-24 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 1-for-1 on the power play. The Falcons were 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • After a scoreless first period, Cody Walker opened the scoring at the 3:10 mark of the first period. Cody Walker picked up a loose puck and flipped it past Beaver for his first goal of the season. Witt and Connor Bertamini had assists on the goal.
  • Six minutes later, Daniels tied the game with his 11th goal of the season. Graduate student Austin Mourar had an assist on the power-play goal.
  • Tyler Ignazzitto gave Albertus a 2-1 lead at the 8:41 mark of the third period. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by Witt.
  • Daniels scored with seven seconds remaining in regulation to help Hobart earn a point in the game and force overtime. His team-leading 12th goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Connor Lally.
  • Zane Kindrachuk scored the game-winning goal at the 1:56 mark of the extra session.  
 
 
UP NEXT
Hobart and Albertus Magnus will conclude the weekend series tomorrow, Feb.1. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Ralph Walker Rink.
