Murray makes career-high 46 saves against Hamilton

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior goalie Erin Murray made a career-high 46 saves, but Hamilton scored three goals in the third period as it knocked off the Herons 3-0 in a non-conference contest at The Cooler.  
 
Murray played all 60 minutes in goal, recording double-digit saves in each period, including 18 in the opening frame. In the second period, she recorded her 1,000th career save, becoming just the third goalie in program history to hit that mark. 
 
Grace Crowley (1g, 1a) and Lydia Bullock (2a) recorded multi-point games for the Continentals. Tegan Brown started in the Hamilton goal. She made 13 saves as she earned her first win of the season.

MATCH MOMENTS
  • Hamilton dominated the opening 20 minutes, outshooting William Smith 18-4.  The Continentals peppered the Herons' goal but Murray was up to the task, keeping Hamilton off of the scoreboard.
  • Forty seconds into the second period, Tara Valas had a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle turned aside by Brown.
  • Brown made the biggest save of the game in the final two minutes of the middle stanza. Mackenzie O'Neil fired a shot from the slot that was ticketed for the upper left corner of the cage. Brown slid to her right and batted the puck away with the blade of her stick at the last second.
  • Katie Allen opened the scoring for Hamilton at the 5:48 mark of the third period. She redirected a Sophia Testa point shot past Murray for her second goal of the season. Abby Weiss also had an assist on the power-play goal.
  • Five minutes later, Crowley gave the Continentals a two-goal lead. She picked up a loose puck on the left goal post and flipped a shot across the goal line. Bullock and Sophie Berghammer were awarded assists on the power-play goal.
  • Hamilton appeared to take a three-goal lead at the 17:13 mark, but he goal was waved off because Lilly Truchon kicked the puck into the net.
  • Twenty seconds later, Truchon did notch her third goal of the season. She picked up a rebound and slipped a shot past Murray. The goal was assisted by Crowley and Bullock.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will continue its homestand this weekend, Jan. 10-11, when it welcomes Salem State to The Cooler for a pair of New England Hockey Conference contests.
