POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The William Smith soccer team scored twice in the first half and never looked back as it defeated 17th-ranked Vassar 3-1 in a Liberty League contest on Gordon Field this afternoon. With their fifth straight win, the Herons are now 9-2-2 overall this season with a 5-1-0 mark in Liberty League play.
Three different players scored in the victory for William Smith. Junior
Antonia Goerke played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves.
Gianna Panarelli scored for the Brewers (11-3-0, 5-1-0). Laura Shea played all 90 minutes in goal for Vassar. She made four saves.

- Sophomore Lily Pryzwansky had the game's first scoring chance in the eighth minute, but her attempt was smothered by Shea.
- In the 17th minute, senior Ruth Hotaling notched her Liberty League-leading 12th goal of the season. She ran onto a long crossing pass from sophomore Nell Dwyer and redirected the shot past Shea.
- Just under a minute later, Vassar tied the game. Panarelli picked up a rebound in the box and chipped a shot past Goerke for her fifth goal of the year. Ava Holman had the assist on the tally.
- The Herons regained the lead in the 20th minute. Senior Julia Accioly used her speed to beat a defender to a loose ball. She fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that redirected off a Vassar defender and into the net.
- The teams traded chances to close out the first half, but the score remained 2-1 after 45 minutes.
- Panarelli nearly scored her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute, but her shot just missed the left goal post.
- Senior Julia Bragg added an insurance goal for William Smith in the 77th minute. Her seventh goal of the year was assisted by first-year Sofia Carney and sophomore Grace Metzler. After a through ball from Metzler, Carney chipped a pass over the Vassar goalie that Bragg tapped over the goal line.
- Bragg nearly added a second goal in the 81st minute, but her shot was stopped by a diving Shea.

William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when it heads to Canton to take on St. Lawrence. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
