SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Hobart seniors
Nick Fischer and
Jacob Linares teamed up to win the doubles title at the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's Northeast Regional Championship. With the victory, Fischer and Linares advance to the 2025 ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
Fischer and Linares are the first Statesmen to win the Northeast Regional Championship since Alan Dubrovsky '20 and Walker Anderson '21 captured the crown in 2018. This is the fourth time since 2018 that Hobart will send a doubles team to the ITA Cup. Dubrovsky and Anderson played in Georgia in 2018 and 2019, and Jett Wright '23 and Sean Pesin '24 reached the ITA Cup in 2023.
As winners of the ITA Northeast Regional, Fischer and Linares were named All-Americans.
ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- Fischer and Linares went a perfect 5-0 as a duo on their way to capturing the Northeast Regional Championship.
- They opened the tournament on Friday, cruising to an 8-0 win over Yeshiva's Jacob Feit and Matan Kamhi. In the round of 16, Fischer and Linares knocked off RIT's Alec Turcotte and Evan Ly, 8-1.
- Saturday's matches started with the quarterfinals. Fischer and Linares defeated Skidmore's Yuval Goodman and Harrison Gradin in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-3). The semifinal match up pitted Fischer and Linares against Vassar's Nolan Kubiak and Fernando Bauermeister. The Statesmen duo won 6-4, 7-5.
- This morning, Fischer and Linares took on Hamilton's Villem Aadamsoo and Lleyton Mendieta in the championship match. Fischer and Linares rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win.
- The duo will compete in Georgia, October 16-19.
OTHER DOUBLES ACTION
- First-years Tejus Ranadive and Michael Georgelis also competed in the main doubles draw, posting a 1-1 record.
- In the round of 32, they beat St. Lawrence's Jake David and Joshua David, 8-3. In the round of 16, they lost to Aadamsoo and Mendieta, 8-1.
- Seniors Jose Martinez Barelles and Aidan Staunton competed in the B Doubles Draw. They also went 1-1. After dropping their opening round match, Martinez Barelles and Staunton beat Baruch's Ryan Huang and Juan Paredes in the consolation draw.
SINGLES DRAW
- Hobart had four players entered in the main singles draw.
- Linares opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Siddharth. It was Linares' fourth win of the season. In the round of 32, Linares was defeated by No. 1 seed Philip Martin, 6-3, 6-2.
- Georgelis was edged by RPI's Gustave Viennet, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, in the opening round.
- Junior Achilleas Kousaridis was 1-1 in singles play. He lost to Skidmore's Epe Topbas, 6-4, 6-2. He bounced back with an 8-0 win over Bard's Thanasis Kostikas in the consolation draw.
- In the round of 64, Fischer lost a hard-fought battle to The College of New Jersey's Nathan Chan, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 12-10.
