ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The William Smith cross country wrapped up its season at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships this morning. The Herons finished 17th out of 23 teams, moving up one spot over their finish last season.

Hope Johnson led William Smith to the finish line. She turned in a 6-kilometer time of 24:23.4 to place 76th in a field of 163 runners.

TEAM STANDINGS
- The Herons moved up to 17th place, one spot higher than last year, despite a deeper field at this year's championship.
- William Smith was 66 points behind 16th-place Penn State Behrend.
- The Herons had a 32-point cushion over 18th-place Buffalo State.
HEAD OF THE PACK
- New York University took the team title by 12 points over runner-up Geneseo. The Violets put their first five runners in the overall top 17.
- The Knights' Ann Brennan was the individual winner with a time of 21:38.2.
