Herons rally past Bears 3-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The William Smith hockey team scored three unanswered goals as it rallied for a 3-1 victory over Potsdam in a SUNYAC game at Maxcy Ice Arena this afternoon. The win was the Herons' first SUNYAC win of the season.
 
First-year Finley Crosby (1g, 1a) and sophomore Bella Hacker (2a) led the way for William Smith with two points each. Junior Mia Iwicki played all 60 minutes in goal and made 27 saves as she earned the victory.
 
Coralie Paradis had the goal for the Bears. Magalie Parent played all 60 minutes in goal and made 23 saves.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • With the win, William Smith is now 3-1-0 overall with a 1-1-0 mark in conference play.
  • Potsdam falls to 3-3-0 overall with a 1-1-0 mark in the SUNYAC.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Potsdam finished the contest with a 28-26 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Herons were 2-for-for on the power play and Potsdam was 0-for-1 with the extra skater.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Bears opened the scoring at the 11:22 mark of the first period. Paradis one-timed a shot home for her second goal of the season. Marissa Whiteside was credited with an assist on the tally.
  • Just before the end of the opening frame, Laine Heiser notched her first goal of the season, firing home a shot from the left faceoff circle. Crosby had an assist on the goal.
  • After a scoreless middle stanza, Crosby ripped a shot past Parent on the power play for her first collegiate goal. Rowan Kennedy and Hacker had helpers on the tally.
  • William Smith tacked on an insurance goal with 36 seconds remaining in regulation. Madeline Diglio notched her first goal of the season off assists from Hacker and Tara Valas.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 21, when it welcomes Oswego to The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
