Mandyck drops career-high 16 points at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—Three Herons dropped double-digit points as the William Smith basketball team fell 86-66 to SUNY Brockport in the first game of the 2025 58 Main BBQ & Brew Tip-Off Classic. With the loss, the Herons fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 2-3 overall.
 
Senior McKenzie Mandyck led William Smith with a career-high 16 points after shooting 5-for-9 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Mandyck added four rebounds, three assists and one steal in the loss. Junior Giana Lobozzo added 13 points, five rebounds, and a team-high four steals, while classmate Amelia McCulley chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
 
Brockport was led by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste's game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Brianna Carey added 19 points, seven steals, one block and one assist in the win.

HERON STAT LEADERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening quarter saw the two sides trade the early points before Brockport went on a short run, extending their lead to nine points. A Bridget McCleary three-pointer brought the Herons back within six as the opening quarter came to a close.
  • The Golden Eagles grabbed the momentum in the second quarter, scoring 21 points and holding the Herons to a game-low 13 points in the second quarter. Brockport found crucial points in the paint, tallying 14 points in the paint compared to the Herons' two. The Golden Eagles closed out the first half with a 16-point lead.
  • William Smith responded well in the third quarter, outscoring Brockport 21-20 in the quarter. 11 of the Herons' points came off turnovers as William Smith got back within six points with six minutes remaining. Brockport scored the last six points of the quarter to maintain a 15-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
  • Brockport used a 23-point fourth quarter, finding most of its points off of turnovers, to close out the nonconference battle with a 86-66 win in favor of the Golden Eagles.
