GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team opened the 2025-26 season in Bristol Gym this evening, hosting York (PA). The Statesmen put three players in double figures, but the Spartans finished with five on their way to an 85-67 victory.
Junior
Alex Moesch led Hobart with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He also shared team-high honors with five rebounds and dished out three assists. Classmate
Dorian Paki netted 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore
Allen Mordi posted 11 points and four boards. Senior
Gabriel Bergeron chipped in eight points and five boards.
York's Tate Landis led all scorers with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and four steals. Jayden Rowe notched 15 points and seven rebounds. Ben Troyer gave the Spartans 13 points off the bench. Cooper Haberern logged a double-double on 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Aleks Smith also had 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A back-and-forth first half was knotted at 32 following a 3-pointer by Mordi with just over two minutes left.
- York used an 11-2 run down the stretch to carry a 43-34 lead into halftime. Landis led the charge with seven points.
- The Spartans maintained their momentum at the start of the second half, using a 20-9 scoring surge to open up a 20-point lead with 13 minutes left.
- Nick Schroeder (5) and Cooper Haberern (5) combined for half of York's points during the run.
- Over the final 13 minutes, the Spartans kept the Statesmen at arm's length, maintaining at least a 17-point lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- York shot 45.6% for the game, including 48.3% in the first half.
- The Spartans made 12 3-pointers.
- Hobart shot 41% overall, shooting slightly better than York in the second half (44.4% to 43.6%).
- Paki was 5-of-8 shooting with a pair of dunks.
- All 15 healthy Statesmen played in the game. First-years Harrison Muntner (2 pts) and Elvis Lloyd (2) and sophomore walk-on Devyn Williams (3) scored their first career points.
