4 Herons named to Academic All-District team

Four members of the William Smith volleyball team were named to the 2025 Academic All-District® Team selected by College Sports Communicators. Seniors Malya Sayre and Hope Von Dohlen and sophomores Emily Fulton and Delainy Williams were recognized for their exceptional athletic and academic achievements.
 
A business management and entrepreneurship major from Peotone, Illinois, Sayre earned her third straight CSC Academic All-District recognition after another dominant season that saw her earn her third straight AVCA All-American honorable mention recognition. Sayre averaged a league-leading 4.76 kills per set and 5.60 points per set, which ranked seventh and third in the nation, respectively. She ranked eighth in the Liberty League in service aces per set, averaging 0.54. Sayre recorded a team-leading 12 double-doubles in her senior season, including nine matches with 20+ kills and put down double digit kills in all but one match. She closed out her Heron career with a program-record 1,611 kills, 1,009 digs and 185 service aces, marking the first Heron in program history to surpass the 1,000-career kill mark as well as the 1,000-career dig mark.
 
A management and entrepreneurship major from San Antonio, Texas, Von Dohlen was named to the CSC Academic All-District team for the second straight season. She was named an AVCA All-Region honorable mention and an All-Liberty League second team selection after another strong season for the Herons. Von Dohlen averaged 2.09 kills per set, 0.57 digs per set, 0.62 blocks per set and 2.44 points per set. She ranked eighth in the Liberty League in hitting percentage (.290) and tallied double-digit kills in eight matches. Von Dohlen put down a season-high 13 kills, hitting .722, in a four-set win over Skidmore. She added a season-high seven digs and six blocks in a win over Mary Washington.
 
A management and entrepreneurship major from Sherwood, Oregon, Fulton earned her first career CSC Academic All-District recognition after a breakout season for the Herons. She was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week once, and put down double-digit kills in 10 matches, recording five double-doubles for William Smith. She averaged 2.48 kills per set, 0.47 service aces per set, 2.57 digs per set and 2.63 points per set. Fulton ranked 11th in the Liberty League in kills per set and points per set. She put down a season-high 16 kills against John Carroll and in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Lynchburg. She also added a career-high 19 digs in a four-set win over Cortland.
 
A political science major from Portland, Oregon, Williams earned her first CSC Academic All-District selection after garnering her second consecutive AVCA All-American honorable mention selection. In her sophomore season, she was named to the William Smith All-Tournament Team as well as the Liberty League Performer of the Week once. Williams averaged a league-leading 10.91 assists per set, which ranked second in the nation. She also added 0.36 services aces per set, 0.40 kills per set, 1.59 digs per set and 0.35 blocks per set. Williams tallied double-digit assists in every match this season, surpassing the 50-assist mark in three matches. She recorded two double-doubles and tallied a season-high 55 assists in the Liberty League title match. Williams tallied 1,211 assists this season, marking her second straight season with 1,000+ assists. She currently holds the program record with 2,345 career assists. Williams recorded a season-high 11 digs against Babson and served up a season-high four aces against Muhlenberg.
 
William Smith finished its record-breaking season with a 24-8 overall record and clinched a bid to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season. The Herons went 6-2 in conference play and made their third-straight appearance in the Liberty League title match, where they fell in a dramatic five-set match to then, No.15 Ithaca. William Smith went on to secure its first ever NCAA tournament win as it downed Lynchburg 3-2 in a thrilling first round match.
 
The 2025 Academic All-District teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50. Athletically, student-athletes must either appear in 90 percent of their team's games or start 66 percent of them.
