The 2025 William Smith volleyball team was not only one of the best in the nation on the court, but also among the nation's elite in the classroom, earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The Herons produced a collective GPA of 3.51 during the 2025-26 academic year, marking the first time the program has earned the award.
 
The award is presented to college and high school teams across the nation that maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA during the academic year.
 
In the fall, seven Herons were named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team, with four of the seven receiving additional acclaim as members of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. In the four-year history of the program, William Smith has had 16 All-Academic selections and nine Academic All-District picks.

On the court, William Smith won a program-record 24 matches in 2025, going 24-8 overall. The Herons were 6-2 in Liberty League play, finishing third in the regular season standings. William Smith reached the Liberty League Tournament championship match for the third consecutive season and received its second consecutive NCAA tournament at-large bid. The Herons earned their first NCAA tournament victory by defeating Lynchburg 3-2 before falling to No. 6 Johns Hopkins in the second round.
 
Since the program's inaugural season in 2022, William Smith has compiled a record of 77-31 for an impressive .713 winning percentage.
