Hobart soccer senior defender
Brian Sheehan was named a second team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches today.
Â
Sheehan is the second Statesman to be named a Scholar All-American, joining
Connor Koschineg '25 who received the award following the 2023 season.
Â
An economics major, Sheehan earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East first team recognition yesterday. He is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection. He is also a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. Sheehan earned his international economics and finance certificate while studying abroad in Prague last spring.
Â
On the pitch, Sheehan started all 19 games for the Statesmen. He scored Hobart's first goal of the season in a win over Kean. A center back, Sheehan led Hobart's defensive unit that allowed a league-low 12 goals and registered a league-high nine shutouts. Following the season, he earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region first team praise and was an All-Liberty League first team selection.
Â
A four-year starter, Sheehan played in 63 career games. He recorded 14 points on five goals and four assists.
Â
To be named to the Scholar All-American teams, a student-athlete must be at least a junior in athletic standing, have a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), play a minimum of 75 percent of games during the season and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e. All-American, all-region, all-conference).
Â
Sheehan and his teammates went 13-1-5 this season. Hobart was 6-0-3 in Liberty League play, capturing the conference regular season and tournament titles for the fifth time. Hobart entered the NCAA tournament with an undefeated record, but was edged by Messiah 1-0 in overtime in the first round.
