3 Herons earn all-region accolades

Three members of the William Smith soccer team were named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-Region III team today. Senior midfielder Ruth Hotaling and sophomore defender Hannah Goodness were named to the first team. Senior orward Julia Bragg earned a spot on the second team.
 
The 2025 Liberty League Player of the Year, Hotaling, started all 17 games this season. She led the Liberty League with 12 goals and 25 points. Hotaling also led William Smith with four game-winning goals. She scored twice in William Smith victories over DeSales, Clarkson and Skidmore. In the middle of the season, Hotaling went on a six-game goal-scoring streak that included the wins over the Golden Knights and the Thoroughbreds. The stretch also included three of her four game-winning goals.
 
A two-time first team all-region selection, Hotaling was a four-year starter, playing in 83 career games. She registered 77 points on 26 goals and 25 assists. Hotaling finished her career 19th on William Smith's all-time points list and seventh in assists.  
 
A first team All-Liberty League selection, Goodness started all 17 games at center back this season. She quarterbacked a William Smith defense that led the Liberty League in shutout percentage (.588). The Herons pitched 10 shutouts this season and allowed only one goal or less in 14 of their 17 games.
 
Goodness earned all-region recognition for the first time in her career. She has played in 32 career games.
 
Bragg, who also earned first team All-Liberty League recognition, played in all 17 games this fall, starting four. She finished her season with a career-high eight goals and 16 points. Bragg was fifth in the Liberty League in goals and seventh in points. She scored twice in William Smith's season opener.
 
Also a first time all-region recipient, Bragg played in 47 career games. She had 19 points on nine goals and an assist.
 
William Smith finished the year with an 11-3-3 overall record. The Herons went 7-1-1 in conference play, finishing second in the conference standings.
