Daniels scores twice, #1 Hobart skates past #4 Oswego 5-2

OSWEGO, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back as it knocked off fourth-ranked Oswego 5-2 in a SUNYAC Conference contest at the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Center this evening.  Senior Tanner Daniels scored twice as the Statesmen picked up their ninth win of the season.  
 
Senior Dominic Schimizzi, junior Tristan Fasig and sophomore Easton Ryan also scored for Hobart. Senior Damon Beaver went the distance in goal and made 17 saves as he won his sixth game of the season.
 
Connor Gatto and Colin Vassallo scored for the Lakers. Gavin McCarthy and Michael Manzi split time in goal. McCarthy made 17 saves in the first 33 minutes.  Michael Manzi played the final 26 minutes and made nine saves.
 
STREAKING
  • With today's victory, Hobart picked up its 15th straight victory.
  • The Statesmen are unbeaten in their last 22 contests.  
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • Hobart is now 9-0-0 overall this season with a 5-0-0 mark in conference play.
  • The loss drops Oswego to 6-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in SUNYAC games.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 31-19 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 0-for-2 on the power play and Oswego was 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Daniels opened the scoring 17 seconds into the game. He redirected a shot from the point past McCarthy for his third goal of the season. Conor Lally and Arvega Hovsepyan were credited with assists on the goal.
  • The Statesmen doubled their lead at the 9:35 mark of the opening frame. Schimizzi crashed the net and poked home a rebound for his first goal of the season. Chris Duclair had an assist on the goal.
  • Oswego broke up the shutout bid at the 16:53 mark of the first period. Vassallo stuffed home a loose puck for his second goal of the year. Matt McQuade had an assist on the tally.
  • Hobart broke the game open in the second period, scoring a pair of goals in 37 seconds. Fasig scored the first goal.  Off a faceoff win, he crashed the net and flipped a shot through McCarthy's legs for his second goal of the season.
  • Daniels made it 4-1 at the 14:13 mark. He wristed a shot from the right faceoff circle past Manzi. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by Kahlil Fontana.
  • Connor Gato cut into the deficit with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Gatto's goal was unassisted.
  • Ryan iced the game with an empty-net goal. It was his fifth goal of the year. After his initial shot hit the post, Ryan wristed the rebound into the empty net.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will conclude its four-game road trip tomorrow, Dec. 5, when it heads to Brockport. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
