Balanced attack powers #1 Hobart past Brockport 8-1

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—Eight different players scored as the top-ranked Hobart Hockey team cruised to an 8-1 win over Brockport in a non-conference contest at Wegmans Ice Arena this evening. The Statesmen jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes, scoring three power-play goals, and never looked back.
 
Hobart had five players finish with multi-point games, including Arvega Hovsepyan, Connor Elliott, Conor Lally and Tanner Daniels, who had a goal and an assist each. Nick Dimatos added a pair of assists. Senior Damon Beaver started in goal and made 18 saves as he notched his seventh win of the year.  
 
Sacha Trudel had the goal for the Golden Eagles. David Filak started in goal for Brockport. He made 33 saves in 47 minutes of action. Trevor Jule played the final 13 minutes. He made eight saves.
 
STREAKING
  • With today's victory, Hobart picked up its 16th straight victory and extended its unbeaten streak to 23 games. Both marks are the second-longest streaks in program history.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • With the win, Hobart is now 10-0-0 overall this season. The Statesmen have won their first 10 games to start the year in each of the last two seasons and the third time in the last four years.
  • Brockport falls to 4-8-0 overall on the year.
  • Hobart has won five straight against the Golden Eagles
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Hobart opened the scoring at the 4:51 mark of the first period. Elliott fired a shot from the point through traffic past Filak. The power-play goal was his first of the season and was assisted by Chris Duclair.
  • Just over 10 minutes later, Easton Ryan added a power-play goal to give the Statesmen a two-goal lead. He one-timed a shot from the left faceoff circle into the back of the net. His sixth goal of the season was assisted by Tristan Fasig and Dimatos.
  • Thirty-two seconds later, Lally ripped a shot from the point past the Brockport goalie. His fourth goal of the year was assisted by Heikki Virtanen and Ignat Belov.
  • Bauer Morrissey tacked on a power-play goal with 90 seconds remaining in the opening frame. His third goal of the year was assisted by Hovsepyan and Lally.
  • Brockport scored the only goal of the second period. Trudel fluttered a shot from the slot that snuck past Beaver. His first collegiate goal was assisted by Brody Seitz.
  • Logan Gotinsky notched his first goal of the season 54 seconds into the third period. It was an unassisted tally.
  • Five minutes later, Brandon Sacchetti notched his first goal of the year. He wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle over Filak's Shoulder. Dimatos and Elliott had assists on the goal.
  • Hovsepyan iced the game one minute later. He snapped a shot past the Brockport goalie for his third goal of the year. Daniels had a helper on the goal.
  • Daniels tacked on an insurance goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. His fifth goal of the year was assisted by Wilhelm Forsberg.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 49-19 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 3-for-6 on the power play, including a 3-for-3 mark in the first period. Brockport was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action next Saturday, Dec. 13, when it welcomes Manhattanville to The Cooler. Faceoff in the non-conference contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
