Herons blank Valiants 3-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—Junior goalie Mia Iwicki made 27 saves as the William Smith ice hockey team shut out Manhattanville 3-0 in a non-conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. With the win, the Herons close out the 2025 portion of their schedule with a 7-3-0 overall record.
 
Junior Laine Heiser and sophomore Bella Hacker led the way for William Smith, recording a goal and an assist each. Senior Seneca Urban had the other tally for the Herons. Iwicki went the distance in goal as she earned her second shutout of the season.
 
Olivia Cimorelli played all but 12 seconds in goal for the Valiants (2-7-1). She made 31 saves.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • The Herons are off to their best start through their first 10 games since the 2019-20 season, when they were also 7-3-0 through their first 10 games.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Herons finished this afternoon's game with a 34-27 advantage in shots on goal.
  • William Smith was 0-for-4 on the power play and Manhattanville was 0-for-1 with the extra skater.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • William Smith opened the scoring at the 9:01 mark of the first period. Urban collected a rebound in the left faceoff circle and snapped a shot past Cimorelli. Her second goal of the season was assisted by Heiser and Hacker.
  • After a scoreless second period, the Herons made it 2-0 just over a minute into the third period. Hacker collected a pass from senior Kelly Howe and stuffed a shot past the Manhattanville goalie. It was her fourth goal of the season. First-year Finley Crosby also had an assist on the tally.
  • Heiser iced the game with 21 seconds remaining in regulation. After blocking a shot, she fired a shot from inside her own zone that trickled into the goal. The unassisted goal was her second of the season.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action after a month off for winter break. The Herons will take on Bowdoin on Jan. 6 in Amherst, Massachusetts. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
