GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team shot a season-high 66% from the floor on the way to an 86-66 Liberty League win over Ithaca in Bristol Gym tonight. Four Statesmen hit double figures led by sophomore
Monty Nedd's career and game-high 27 points.
Nedd connected on 11-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the free throw line. He made a bid for a triple double, posting nine rebounds and eight assists as well as a game-high four steals on the night. Junior
Alex Moesch added a season-high 20 points, including three 3-pointers. Junior
Dorian Paki logged 17 points, including three dunks, to go with a career-high five blocked shots. First-year
Jackson Carey chipped in a season-high 10 points off the bench for Hobart (7-2, 2-1).
Ithaca (2-6, 1-2) put three players in double digits led by Evan Cabral's 22 points. Alex Penders contributed 12 points. Jaylon O'Neal grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
GAME RECAP
First Half – Hobart 53, Ithaca 26
- The Statesmen took their first step toward seizing control of the game with nine straight points that started a 14-3 run. Hobart went from trailing by two to leading by nine just over nine minutes into the game.
- It was a five-point game midway through the first half, when the Statesmen found another gear that the Bombers couldn't match.
- Hobart went on a 23-4 run, making 10-of-11 from the floor, while limiting Ithaca to 1-of-11 shooting. Paki led the charge with 12 points, including a pair of two- handed slams, during the six minute surge.
- In the first half, Nedd had 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, Paki had 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, and Moesch posted 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, making both of his shots from beyond the arc.
Second Half – Hobart 86, Ithaca 66
- The Statesmen kept the visitors at bay in the second half. Hobart led by as many as 27 and never let its lead dip below 16.
- Tylar Okai-Koi made a pair of free throws with 3:35 to go, cutting the Statesmen lead to 79-62, but Hobart quelled the threat with the game's next eight points, capped off by a 3-pointer from sophomore Allen Mordi (8 pts, 9 rebs).
