Aquaro scores twice, #1 Hobart blanks NEC 6-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team scored four goals in the second period as it cruised to a 6-0 victory over New England College in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening. With the victory, the Statesmen improved to 21-1-0 on the season with a 16-1-0 mark in conference play.
 
Senior captain Luke Aquaro led Hobart with two goals and one assist. Junior Tanner Daniels also had a three-point game, registering a goal and two assists in the win. In total, 12 Statesmen found their way onto the scoresheet. Junior Damon Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal he made 10 saves as he earned his fourth shutout of the season.
 
Anthony Beaulieu played 40 minutes in goal for New England College (9-12-1, 8-8-1). He made 31 saves. Danny Miscavish played the third period and made 10 saves.
 
STREAKING
  • With tonight's victory, Hobart extended its NCAA Division III record home winning streak to 48 games.
  • Daniels has recorded at least one point in 11 straight games.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 47-10 advantage in shots on goal, including a 21-3 edge in the second period.
  • Hobart was 0-for-3 on the power play and the Pilgrims were 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 11:40 mark of the first period. He redirected a Connor Elliot shot past Beaulieu for his 13th goal of the season. Daniels also had an assist on the goal.
  • Hobart broke the game open, scoring three goals in two minutes to open the second period. Daniels started the flurry with his team-leading 15th goal of the season. He wristed a shot from the slot through the goalie's legs. Aquaro and sophomore Bauer Morrissey registered assists on the goal.
  • Seventy-two seconds later, first-year Adam Mendelson gave the Statesmen a three-goal lead. He knocked in a loose puck for his fifth goal of the season. First-years Easton Ryan and Josh Doolan were awarded assists on the goal.
  • Sixty-five seconds later, graduate Student Austin Mourar scored a delayed penalty goal firing home a shot from the high slot for his ninth goal of the year. Junior Kahlil Fontana and senior Matthew Iasenza were awarded assists on the goal.
  • Fontana gave Hobart a 5-0 lead at the 9:21 mark of the second period. He picked up a loose puck along the goal line, skated through the slot and snapped a shot past Beaulieu for his ninth goal of the season. The tally was assisted by Chris Duclair and Cooper Swift.
  • Aquaro tacked on an insurance goal at the 5:49 mark of the third period. His 14th goal of the season was assisted by Daniels and Morrissey.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER
  • With three points tonight, Aquaro now has 130 points in his career. He is fifth, one point behind Dana Angelo '90.
  • Aquaro is fourth on the career goals list with 68, two behind Scott Liming '83. He now has 62 assists, moving into a tie for seventh on the assists list with Sean McKiernan '90.
  • Beaver picked up his 47th career win and his 18th career shutout.
