HOBOKEN, N.J.—The 11th-ranked Hobart volleyball team saw its five-match win streak come to an end as it fell 3-0 to No. 4 Stevens this afternoon in a nonconference matchup in Canavan Arena. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 13-2 overall, while the Ducks move to 9-2 on the season.
The battle of two ranked teams saw both Hobart and Stevens put up impressive numbers. The Statesmen put down 38 kills (.206) as a team compared to the Ducks' 45 kills (.340). Both sides tallied 36 digs in the nonconference showdown. Stevens held a 5-4 edge in blocks through three sets, while Hobart held a 4-3 advantage in service aces.
Graduate student Andrew Kim led the Statesmen with 18 kills, hitting .343 through three sets. Kim added seven digs, two blocks, two assists and one service ace in the loss. Sophomore Noah DeLong chipped in seven kills (.095), two digs and two blocks, while first-year Alain Malcolm added five kills (.333) four digs, and three blocks out of the middle.
Greg Li led Stevens with 10 kills, hitting .769 in the sweep. He added four blocks and one dig in the win. Koby Sherman added nine kills (.208), two blocks and a dig for the Ducks. Sebastian Huyke tallied 26 assists in the win for Stevens.
MATCH MOMENTS:
- Both sides came out hot in the opening set as Hobart put down 16 kills (.250) compared to Stevens' 19 (.275). The first set saw four lead changes and 10 tie scores as Kim went off for a match-high nine kills (.444) to grab the early lead. The Statesmen jumped out to a 20-17 lead before the Ducks stormed back and found back-to-back kills by Alex Olcott to close out set one on top 27-25.
- Stevens continued on their momentum in the second set and put down 12 kills (.308) as a team while holding Hobart to a match-low six kills (.043). The Ducks found crucial points from Phillip Bone and Li who combined for nine kills to lead Stevens to a dominating 25-15 win in set two.
- The Statesmen responded well in the must-win third set and combined for 16 kills (.267) as a team. The Ducks put down 14 kills (.522) and used its big block to storm back after an early Hobart lead. Stevens took control after being tied at 12 and closed out the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third.
MATCH STATS:
- Kim led Hobart with 18 kills, hitting .343 through three sets. DeLong added seven kills (.095) on the right side, while Malcolm chipped in five kills (.333) in the loss.
- Sophomore Zack Farren and graduate student Benjamin Lincoln led the Statesmen from the setter position and tallied 21 and 11 assists, respectively. The duo combined for seven digs as well in the loss.
- Hobart combined for 36 digs as a team and was led by sophomore libero Gavin Meador with 14 digs. Kim added seven, while Farren chipped in five digs in the setback.
- The Statesmen held a 4-3 edge in service aces and was led by first-year Josh Reilly with two. Kim and first-year Kian Kischke chipped in one ace each against the Ducks.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow as it travels to Purchase, New York, for a tri-match at Manhattanville. The Statesmen will take on Regis at 1 p.m. before closing out the weekend's action with a matchup against the host Valiants at 3 p.m.
