BOSTON, Mass.—The William Smith hockey team was edged by UMass Boston 2-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Edward T. Barry Ice Rink this afternoon. The Beacons used a pair of power-play goals to secure the victory.

Erin Murray played 56 minutes in goal and made 20 saves.
Gianna Skrelja led UMass Boston with a goal and an assist in the victory. Leah Bosch played all 60 minutes in goal and made 32 saves.
FOR THE RECORD
- William Smith is now 10-13-1 on the season with a 10-7-0 mark in conference play.
- The Beacons are 10-13-1 overall with a 9-7-1 mark in NEHC play.
- Despite dropping to fifth in the conference standings, one point behind UMass Boston, the Herons still control their own destiny. If they win in regulation tomorrow they will lock up the fourth seed and a home playoff game against the Beacons.

- UMass Boston opened the scoring at the 9:31 mark of the first period. Emily Hansen picked up a rebound in the slot and chipped a shot past Murray. It was her fifth goal of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by Cassidy Morrison and Skrelja.
- Skrelja tacked on a goal of her own at the 3:34 mark of the second period. She snapped a shot from the high slot past Murray for her fifth goal of the season. The power-play tally was assisted by Mia Boyd.

- Just before the midway point of the game, Kate Wilbert nearly gave William Smith a three-goal lead but her shot hit the goal post.
- William Smith sophomore Tara Valas drilled a goal post in the final seconds of the frame.

- With three minutes remaining in regulation, Kayla Ketchabaw fired a shot off of the goalpost.
- Despite the mounting pressure Bosch stood tall to preserve the shutout.
