Beaver, Statesmen blank Babson 2-0

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Hobart junior goalie Damon Beaver made 23 saves as the top-ranked Statesmen knocked off Babson 2-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the Babson Skating Center this afternoon.
 
Junior Tristan Fasig and first-year Easton Ryan scored for the Statesmen. Beaver picked up his fifth shutout of the season.
 
Nate Mueller started in goal for Babson and made 28 saves.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • With the win, Hobart improved to 23-1-0 overall this season with an 18-1-0 mark in NEHC play.
  • The Beavers are now 13-10-1 overall and 11-8-0 in conference play.
 
STREAKING
  • Beaver picked up his second consecutive shutout. It was also his second consecutive shutout against Babson.
  • Hobart has won six straight games since losing to Albertus Magnus.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 30-23 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 0-for-2 with the man advantage and Babson was 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
 
MATCH MOMENTS
  • Hobart finished the first period with a 10-6 advantage in shots. The goalies stole the show making several stops to keep it 0-0 after 20 minutes.
  • In the later stages of the frame, the Statesmen killed off a five-minute major only allowing two shots on goal.
  • The Beavers dominated the first half of the second period, firing the first 12 shots on goal of the stanza. They finished the frame with a 15-10 edge in shots on goal. Damon Beaver was at his best in the stanza, stopping all 15 shots.
  • Fasig opened the scoring at the 11:48 mark of the second period. His shorthanded goal came on Hobart's first shot on goal of the period. His fifth goal of the season was assisted by junior Ignat Belov.
  • Belov nearly gave Hobart a two-goal lead three minutes later, but his shot hit the goalpost.
  • Ryan gave Hobart a 2-0 lead at the 13:12 mark of the third period. His fourth goal of the year was assisted by graduate Austin Mourar.
  • Hobart dominated the final frame, outshooting Babson 10-2 in the final 20 minutes.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER
  • Beaver collected his 19th career shutout. It moves him into a tie for fourth on the NCAA Division III all-time list.
  • With five shutouts this season, he is tied with Mavrick Goyer for fourth on Hobart's single-season list.
  • Beaver and Goyer's 10 shutouts this season are second on the Statesmen's single-season list.
