NEW YORK, N.Y. – The 37th-ranked Hobart tennis team concluded its weekend road trip with a 6-1 loss to NYU on Sunday. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Violets move to 3-1 overall.
In doubles action, seniors Nick Grosso and Rahul Vallabhajosula picked up their second win of the weekend, defeating Alex Lee and Zachary Freier, 4-6, in the No. 3 spot. However, NYU claimed victories in the other two doubles matches to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, first-year Marco Olmos secured the lone point for Hobart, winning against Devan Sabapathy in the No. 6 spot. Sabapathy retired after being down 4-3 in the second set.
In the No. 3 spot, Grosso fought hard against Bryan Hui but ultimately lost in a tiebreaker, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Junior Nick Fischer put up a fight in the No. 2 spot, but fell 6-4, 6-3 to Jingyuan Chen.

Hobart will be back in action as it heads to Orlando, Florida, for its spring break trip. The Statesmen will face Emporia State Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
