NEW YORK, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to No. 30 NYU on Sunday. The Herons are now 1-2 on the season, while the Violets move to 4-1 overall.

In doubles play, senior Natalie Haythorn and junior Marin Montagne showed strong in the No.1 spot but ultimately fell to Isabella Hartman and Jimena Menendez, 6-4. NYU swept all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition.

Montagne continued to battle at No. 3 singles, playing a strong second set against Diana Pujas but ultimately losing 6-1, 6-4. First-year Bethany Walker dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Aileen Yu in the No. 6 spot.

The Herons will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Orlando, Florida, for spring break matches. William Smith will face Indiana University Kokomo on Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center.
