BEND, Ore. –The William Smith Alpine skiing team concluded its season at the 2025 USCSA National Championships on Mount Bachelor last week. The Herons finished tied for 14th out of 27 teams, highlighted by a 34th place overall finish by senior Marjorie Plants out of 142 racers.
On Tuesday, William Smith competed in the giant slalom, finishing 16th out of 27 teams. The following day, the Herons placed sixth out of 18 teams in the skier cross, competing in the event for the first time. William Smith concluded the week with a 12th place finish in the slalom on Thursday to secure a tie for 14th place overall with Oregon.
In Tuesday's 136-racer field in the slalom, the Herons combined for a time of 7:25.53. Plants led William Smith with a 43rd place finish after stopping the clock at 2:19.99. Sophomore Emily Cain clocked in at 2:29.27 to secure 63rd in her first collegiate national championship appearance.
In Wednesday's skier cross, first-year Lily Winch had a standout performance for William Smith, securing 13th place with a time of 28.92. Classmate Madison Campisi also impressed for the Herons, finishing 20th with a time of 30.38. Plants rounded out the top three finishers for William Smith with a 25th place finish after stopping the clock at 29.31.
In Thursday's slalom, William Smith produced two top 50 finishers in a 137-racer field. Junior Katherine Broderick led the Herons with a 36th place finish after combining for a time of 1:43.75. Plants followed close behind with a time of 1:45.43 to secure 42nd place. Senior Emma McKenna and first-year Mia Crivelli added 62nd and 69th place finishes for William Smith.
