The William Smith Alpine skiing team competed in week five of USCSA action on Labrador Mountain over the weekend. The Herons finished third of 13 teams in the giant slalom on Saturday and first of 13 teams in the slalom on Sunday to hold their second-place spot in the Mideast Conference standings.

In Saturday's giant slalom race, which included 66 racers, William Smith produced two top 20 finishers, including the first-place finisher, first-year
Aspen McAuley. McAuley tallies her fourth first-place finish of the season in the giant slalom, securing it by nearly four seconds with a time of 1:31.54. This is also McAuley's fastest time of the season in the giant slalom. Senior
Julia Bragg crossed the line at 1:37.98 for her fastest time of the season, grabbing 15th place for the Herons.

In Sunday's slalom race, four Herons finished in the top 20 to help William Smith secure first place. McAuley added her fifth first-place finish in the slalom, stopping the clock at 1:30.40. Senior
Kate Broderick finished eighth with a time of 1:37.25, recording her fifth top 10 finish of the season in the slalom. Sophomore
Mia Crivelli crossed the line at 1:42.40 to secure a 12th place finish, while junior
Emily Cain raced to an 18th place finish with a time of 1:48.54.

William Smith will be back in action next weekend for the USCSA Mideast Regional Championship. The Herons will race the giant slalom event on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. and the slalom on Sunday at 9 a.m. on Bristol Mountain.
