Herons tripped up by Flying Dutch

ORLANDO, Fla.— The William Smith tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip with a hard-fought match against 37th-ranked Hope this morning, ultimately falling 6-1. The Herons fall to 3-4 on the season, while the Flying Dutch improve to 6-2 with the win.

William Smith came out strong and secured the doubles point with victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Junior Haley Levine and sophomore Grace Magna defeated Hadley Krygier and Miyako Coffey 6-4 at No. 2, while sophomore Mae Kellersman and senior Julia Pida cruised to a 6-2 win over Mallory Matthews and Phoebe Walker in the No. 3 spot.

Despite taking the early lead, Hope swept the singles matches to claim the team victory. Senior Natalie Haythorn put up a fight in the No. 2 singles position, ultimately falling 6-2, 6-3 to Amanda Lopykinski. Magna also impressed but dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Madison Wei in the No. 5 spot.

UP NEXT: 

The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, March 22, when they travel to No. 30 Vassar for their Liberty League opener. First serve between the Herons and the Brewers is set for 10 a.m. at Cretella Tennis Courts.
