GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team delivered a convincing performance today, securing a 6-1 victory over Hartwick. With this win, the Herons improve to 4-5 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 12-2.
William Smith set the tone early by sweeping doubles play. At No. 1, sophomore Grace Magna and junior Haley Levine battled to a 6-4 victory over Alex Krasinska and Gianna Leggien. Magna and Levine are now 4-3 in doubles play this season, including a 2-1 record in the No. 1 spot.
In the No. 2 spot, senior Natalie Haythorn and junior Marin Montagne dominated Sam Lantzy and Lilly Vanuga 6-0, while sophomore Mae Kellersman and senior Julia Pida also impressed at No. 3, shutting out Ryann Ashby and Colleen Marsh, 6-0. With these wins, the Herons claimed the doubles point.
In singles play, William Smith continued its strong showing, winning five of six matches in straight sets. At No. 2, Haythorn secured a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Lantzy, while Kellersman controlled her match in the No. 3 spot, winning 6-2, 6-1 against Vanuga.
Magna was dominant at No. 4, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ashby. In the No. 5 spot, Montagne got back in the win column with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Leggien, and at No. 6, first-year Bethany Walker secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Maggie van Valkenburgh. Walker improves to 4-5 on the season in dual match singles play.

William Smith will be back in action Wednesday, April 2, for a midweek matchup against the University of Rochester. First serve between the Herons and the Yellowjackets is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the HWS Tennis Center.
