Herons drop nonconference matchup to Yellowjackets

GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team welcomed the University of Rochester to Bristol Field House this afternoon for a nonconference match, ultimately falling to its regional foe, 7-0, despite strong efforts. With the loss, the Herons fall to 4-6 on the season, while the Yellowjackets move to 8-4 overall.

In doubles play, senior Natalie Haythorn and junior Marin Montagne battled through a tight match at No. 2, securing a 7-6 (7-4) victory over Sanjana Karnam and Jasmin Toor. However, Rochester claimed wins in the other two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

In singles action, the Yellowjackets swept all six matches to secure the victory, but two Herons came close in hard-fought contests. In the No. 5 spot, Montagne pushed Karnam but fell 6-4, 6-3. At No. 6, first-year Bethany Walker took Neha Dania to a third-set tiebreaker, narrowly losing 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-10.
