#37 Hobart falls at TCNJ 6-1

EWING, N.J.— The 37th-ranked Hobart tennis team put up a strong fight but came up short against regional foe, TCNJ, falling 6-1 in a tightly contested regional matchup this evening. The Statesmen fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Lions improve to 2-2 overall.

Hobart secured a win in doubles play at the No. 3 spot as seniors Nick Grosso and Rahul Vallabhajosula defeated Nathan Chan and Olufela Fieulleteau 6-3. However, TCNJ claimed victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to earn the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.

In singles action, Vallabhajosula secured Hobart's lone point, battling to a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 victory over Aidan Twamley in the No. 4 position.

Three other Statesmen forced tiebreakers after splitting sets, keeping the match highly competitive. Senior Hyat Oyer (No. 2), Grosso (No. 3), and first-year Marco Olmos (No. 6) all took their matches to deciding third sets but ultimately fell just short in their efforts.

UP NEXT:

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow as it heads to NYU in New York City, N.Y.  First serve between the Statesmen and the Violets is set for 1 p.m. in Stadium Tennis Center.
